Opus originally began its journey in 1977 as a screen printing company. Over the years we have continued to expand, introducing new technology, more innovations and procedures to our core business. This enables us to provide the comprehensive service needed to meet today’s demanding marketplace.

Our history

1977

Founded

Opus was founded in 1977 by Graeme King. He started trading as a screen printing company, from his garage.

We are still using a screen press today – great for corporate and hi-impact colours, colour matching and brand awareness.

1980

New location

The company quickly grew and invested in semi-automatic printing presses which needed a lot more space which in turn led to Opus relocating to the Nuffield Industrial Estate in Poole.

1998

Time to move

After nearly 20 years of growth in the Poole units and, due to increasing customer demand, the company began searching for a new more suitable premises to accommodate both the screen printing and new digital printing presses. The business finally relocated to the Drewitt Industrial Estate, Bournemouth.

1999

Management buyout

1999 saw a management buyout by two of its longest standing employees and (now) Directors, Kevin Sweet and Kevin Hyde.

2009

We go digital

Our first digital flat bed press acquired. This was our first step into digital technology. Although this machine was slower compared to today’s technology, the quality was second to none. And our clients loved it. High quality print today, as it was then, is just as important in today's market.

2013

Investment

By 2013 we had increased to two flat bed digital printers. Again, this investment was heavily bias towards quality over quantity.

2018

Speed + Quality

Through learning, developing and creative investment, we introduce three new large format digital printers, one of which has Hybrid technology to allow us to print roll to roll substrates. All acquired with a continued focus of quality, but now we also have the added bonus of speed. All three presses are the same model, all use the same ink and two have the capabilities to print white. This allows us to have the same colour and quality across the board. Two laser eye cutters allow us to accurately cut each printed substrate.

2024
